“To know Christ” - New believers need to be established in a solid relationship with Jesus and be clear about their identity in Christ. The primary focus should be a life motivated by His love and yielded in obedience to Christ.
The Wheel Illustration
The Navigators Wheel Illustration is an effective way to communicate the components of a vibrant Christian life centered on Jesus.
- The Wheel Illustration is a simple diagram that can be presented in a single session. It’s topics can also be linked to other basic disciplines and life transforming truths. Some of these include:
- NavPress study Growing in Christ. A thirteen week course which includes two studies: Lessons on Assurance and Lessons on Christian Living which can also be purchased separately. Highly recommended - this study covers a new believer’s identity in Christ and “what to do” as a new Christian.
- NavPress Design for Discipleship series. These seven studies offer interactive, discussion-prompting questions that inspire and nurture growth toward Christian maturity.
- Every Man a Warrior. Although not a Navigators program, the authors have Navigators background and some of our staff are using this to establish young men in their walk.
- NavPress The Topical Memory System - Scripture memory “A pack” is linked to the Wheel diagram.
- Here is an example of how to use the Wheel Illustration for a multi-week study.
Living an abundant life yielded to Christ
For most Christians there is a constant tension between “my way” and “His way.” We struggle to give up control even when we know that His way is best. Here’s a classic illustration from Cru (not Navigators) about living a Christ-centered life.
Character and purity are a major focus during this time. Here is a Hebrews 12 Bible study with practical suggestions on how to “lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us.”
IMPORTANT: Navigator staff have access to The Navigators Sexual Health and Wholeness (SHAW) counseling team and resources. Every Navigator should be familiar with this team and their resources.
